CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS
BMHC MUSIC CLASSES & REGISTRATION INFORMATION:
BMHC offers small group, low-cost instruction for children, teens and adults. All classes are first come, first served. Weekly music instruction is offered in three 10-week sessions (Fall, Spring & Summer).
Classes are taught by teaching artists who are well-established in their disciplines and who share a passion for developing musical talent and technique. Classes and workshops include piano, guitar, conga, percussion and cultural dance in small group settings, and focus on technique, as well as instruction in music notation and basic theory.
We offer the following classes for children (7 – 14):
- Rhythm & Percussion Class (Mondays, 4:30-5:20 pm)
- Ballet Basics w/City Center (Mondays, 5:30-6:30 pm) 8 wks – begins Oct. 20
- Youth Beginner Piano * (Tuesdays, 4:30-5:20 pm)
- Mexican Folk Dance (Saturdays, 2:00-3:30 pm)
*This class has a Waiting List. Participation depends on availability.
We offer the following class for teens 14-18 years old
- Music Production Class (Tuesdays from 5-6:30 pm)
We offer the following classes for teens and adults (14 and up):
- Conga Beginner Group 1 * (Mondays, 5:30-6:30 pm)
- Bomba dance (Tuesday, 6-7:30 pm)
- Piano Beginner Group 1* (Tuesdays, 7:00-7:45 pm)
*These classes have a Waiting List. Participation depends on availability.
- Guitar Beginner Group 1 -(Wednesdays, 5:30-6:30 pm)
- NEW PLAYLIST (Wednesdays 5-6:30 pm)
A FREE dance fusion class exploring Bomba, Ballet & Hip Hop with community partner, Evolutionforward, for ages 16 to 99+
We also offer:
- Salsa for Seniors – Wednesdays 4:00 – 5:00 pm (This class is free for Seniors)
We offer the following classes through Community Partners:
- Capoeira with Bronx Capoeira for teens and adults (16 and up) (Sliding Scale) (Mondays & Wednesdays, 6:30 – 8:00 pm)
BMHC classes are low cost, small group classes
Registration for new students is in-person only, by appointment
Registration is on a first come, first served basis
Registration fee for adults $75
Registration fee is the only cost for students
Registration fee for youth, 6-18 years old, $35
Financial aid may be available upon request
All classes meet once per week

ABOUT
- Acceptance to the ensemble will be by audition.
- Students must have their own instruments.
- The students will meet once a week for 2-3 hours on Sunday’s during the school semester.
- At the end of each semester there will be a concert at the BRONX MUSIC HALL’S main theater open to the public.
- All students will receive a full scholarship to attend and receive free tickets to BMH programs.
The students will explore the rich canon of this New York City-born art form that employs Afro-Cuban rhythms through established historical repertoire as well as exploring other styles (funk, rock, etc.) and new works representing other regions of Latin America other than Cuba, like Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Colombia, including Brazil and beyond. The students will also learn the rich history of the art form as well via listening sessions.
REQUIREMENTS:
The orchestra is open to all NYC students. Students who are proficient and live in the surrounding tri-state area and can commute are open to audition as well. High level reading, performance skills, and maturity will be a priority. If a student is a pre-high school student but has an extremely high skill level on their instrument, admittance to the orchestra is possible at the discretion of Mr. Sanabria.
